KUDOS TO OUR GARDENERS!
The Park Street Community Garden had great first season.
A successful growing season got underway after a slow start
last spring. For those of you who did not follow the garden's progress through the year, here were our major 2011 accomplishments:
- Spring Fundraiser
- Work Party #1: landscaping raised bed area -- a whole lotta digging!
- Work Party #2: bed building -- 13 beds built in a matter of hours!

- Work Party #2: bed building -- 13 beds built in a matter of hours!
- Delivered topsoil and compost to site
- Created & distributed member contracts and leased plots
- Storage shed donated and delivered to site. No easy feat -- this thing was a beast to move!
- Purchased & donated communal tools to shed (hoses, shovel, rake, etc.)
- Built & installed compost bins
- Work Party #3: built back fence and gate
- Security lighting: purchased motion-detector light, which we'll install soon
Later in the summer, a 3-bin compost was built near the back east edge of the garden. Making compost will be an interesting learning process for all of us.

AND WE'RE ALREADY LOOKING FORWARD TO 2012
Next year we hope to wrap up the "construction phase" of the garden by completing the raised beds, trenching in a water line, and landscaping the site, hopefully early in the season. Then we can turn our focus to maintenance and beautifying the site. We appreciate your patience while we are still under construction.
Here are our major goals for 2012:
- Spring fundraiser
- Build & install remaining raised beds -- only 7-8 left to go!
- Trench a water line so that water can be accessed from inside the garden
- Landscape the site with mulch, gravel, or a low-maintenance grass (to be determined)
- Create and install engraved bricks to thank our donors
- Build monument sign in front of garden
